O’dea High School Joins the Association

Renton, WA – Today O’dea High School became a full member of the association.   After years of back and forth, O’dea High School officially announced its intent to form a volleyball club.   They will participate in the upcoming 2014 fall season.  Jose Martin, the person spear heading the initiative was elected to the board as well.  This brings the board up to 4 members, with one more open position left, the board is starting to take shape.

Also instrumental were the parent organization and the other staff at the school that were in favor of starting the club.

The full press release can be found here.

Curtis High School Added as a Member School

Today, the association welcomed Curtis High School to the volleyball club family. This the third school to officially form a club to compete in the upcoming fall season. Credit goes to the students at Curtis High School, who also are a part of the USAV South Sound Volleyball Club, especially Johnathan Carson and his father Rusty Carson. Rick Todd former varsity volleyball coach and avid volleyball supporter, also helped along the initiative.

Now the association will look to the Summer Tournament open to all who want to play this July 25th at Heritage Park. Also a big portion of its time will be to develop the Western Washington Qualifier Tournament and then the subsequent playoffs.

New CEVA Boys Volleyball Policy

CEVA is the USAV region operating in Oregon and Southwest Washington (Vancouver) and they have a new policy concerning boys volleyball.

Boys Tournaments are open to any boys under 18. Boys DO NOT have to be part of a team to play! They can come as individuals and we will find them a team to play on. They DO NOT have to know HOW to play! Each tournament will start with a 90 minutes skills clinic followed by friendly tournament play. A one time $25 fee covers all 3 tournaments! The only direct cost to attend these tournaments is a one-time $25 CEVA annual Boys membership fee – good for all tournaments this year.

This is a pretty rare opportunity in this age of highly exclusive, highly priced organized sports. Send this info to your friends, your kids, your students and your club parents. They can get more info at https://www.facebook.com/CEVABOYS/events.

Hope for 2013

As we get back to school I would like to think about this year and what could be next year.

I hope this is the last year that we don’t have boys volleyball in High School.

For the thousands of students who will take Gym in the state of Washington, I hope this is the last year they wonder,”Why isn’t their boys volleyball?”

I hope these students not involved with school, will get involved with school through volleyball.

I hope that the freshmen who get cut from High School varsity teams will find us and start new teams.

I hope that adult volleyball players will get involved with the WSHSVBA and volunteer their time.

I hope that students will support there classmates by joining the team or attending their games.

I hope that students will not kick the can down the road and start a team.

And finally I hope that we all prosper in 2012 and 2013.
